Black/Blue/Splash Buff Columbian English Orpingtons

Getting to this small but mighty flock has taken a long time. Two of these hens are over 2 years old now. Sourcing these birds was near impossible. Finding the body type in this color variety was harder than finding a needle in a haystack. They’re still not quite where I want them, but aren’t they just beautiful? They’re just chickens, oh I know, but at least they’re pretty chickens!!
Now that I finally have a rooster (and a back up cockerel) I will get to start hatching eggs from these gorgeous girls!! I’ve got 5 so far, from 2 hens and one pullet. This group has been slower to get into the swing of laying this year. But you bet your butt I’m putting these five in the incubator, today!!!

Freshly hatched English Orpington chicks in Blue, Splash, Black Mottled, and Blue Mottled 💜
A quick scrambled egg first bite, some supervised learning to drink water, and then it’s off to the brooder in a few more hours!
This is my first hatch of the year. Started with 18 eggs. 3 were pulled on day 7 of incubation with no development (likely infertile). The remaining 15 made it all the way to lockdown. 14/15 hatched, one was lost to malposition and never pipped.
I am incredibly happy with these chicks 💜 everyone is happy, healthy, and SO LARGE!!
